Hi everyone, I am Prodip Roy, currently, I work as the Library Officer at RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia. I am also a part-time PhD candidate in Business Information Systems studying under the School of Accounting, Information Systems and Supply Chain at RMIT University. I was born and raised in Bangladesh and in 2009 I migrated to Australia as a qualified librarian. I have been working as a Library Professional in Local and State Government as well as the tertiary education sector in Australia and overseas for sixteen years. Besides my regular job and study, I have been a Delegate and branch committee member of The National Tertiary Education Union, Australia for the RMIT branch. I am the Co-Chair(Elect) SIG-III, Association for Information Science & Technology (ASIS&T), a member of Creative Commons Global Network, an existing member for Creative Commons Australia Chapter and lead responsible for Open Ed (Tertiary). As the founder and Editor in Chief, I lead The Librarian Times team in implementing its vision and mission.

SIG-KM International Research Symposium 2021

The primary goal of the KM symposium is to encourage and empower participants who are new in the knowledge management. Additionally, to showcase the works of scholars and practitioners researching the knowledge management field. Through this symposium students and early career researchers can network and present their research to others in the field. This would help the participants to receive feedback on their work before submitting their research to peer-reviewed publications. Additionally, participants can find mentors and research collaborators beyond their immediate professors. These events open doors to new work opportunities and new connections. As this symposium seeks students, early career researchers and professionals who are on tight budgets, we have decided to make this KM-Symposium free to all participants, allowing them to present their research without worrying about how they will pay symposium registration fees.

BRBD: A unique platform for young researchers

Research work is a difficult and challenging part for young researchers. Due to a lack of necessary resources and guidelines, they cannot concentrate on research work properly. Many students lose interest in research due to various reasons, including lack of cooperation of experts, ignorance about necessary tools, complexities in research publication, and insufficient funds. As a result, a country is able to produce enough quality researchers.

A platform called ‘Be Research BD’ has emerged as a beacon for young and promising researchers in such a situation. Overcoming the fear of research, the path of creating a research-friendly environment BRBD began with this open platform for teaching research. The platform is now showing the way of research to the researchers across the world.

The 2nd i-IKM 2021 conference held in Dhaka

The 2nd International Conference on Information and Knowledge Management (i-IKM) 2021 was held in Dhaka during 24-26 June 2021. The Department of Information Studies and Library Management, East West University, in association with East West University Library, organized the Conference virtually. The theme of the 2nd i-IKM 2021 was “Information and Knowledge Management, Innovation and Awareness for Sustainable Library and Information Institutions”.

Call for write-ups: TLT has taken an initiative to publish a memorial book in memory of Dr. Md. Nazim Uddin

Dr Nazim was a shining star and famous name in the library and information science community of Bangladesh. He was a Senior Manager and Head, Library and Information Services, International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) passed away on 23 December 2020 at 10.00 PM in Dhaka (Inna lillahi Oa Inna Ilahi Razeun) due to complications from COVID-19.

He had very good friendships and professional relationships with the LIS professionals and academics nationally and internationally. We do not want to lose all those memories, love and emotions with Dr Nazim. As part of TLT’s initiative, we announced two new categories of TLT awards entitled “Dr Md. Nazim Uddin Memorial Student of the Year Award” and “Dr Md. Nazim Uddin Memorial Academic of the year award”, recognising industry professionals’ achievements and academic excellence in LIS education. Dr Md Nazim Uddin’s family generously supports the awards.

As declared earlier, we would like to publish a book in his memory to recognise Dr Nazim’s incredible works and his dedication to the LIS professionals.

Note that, Dr Md. Nazim Uddin obtained PhD degree from Jadavpur University, West Bengal, India. Before that, he completed his Diploma, and after that, he also completed a Master of Arts in Library Science from the University of Dhaka with a distinction.

Ms Razina Akhter, Librarian, Bangladesh Shishu Academy, has happily accepted our invitation to be the chief editor of the memorial book. Please Submit your write-up in proper given format along with your contact details. We want to make sure the publisher will follow the international standard when publishing the book.

Dr. Dilara Begum electes as IFLA Professional Division Committee Chair 2021-2023

Dr. Dilara Begum, Associate Professor and Chairperson, Department of Information Studies and Library Management and Librarian (In-charge), East West University, has been elected as the IFLA Professional Division Committee Chair for 2021-2023. This is the most significant achievement in the history of Library professionals of Bangladesh. It is worth mentioning that only IFLA officers can be elected for this position. Dr. Dilara Begum has been working as one of the IFLA officers for the last few years. She has been making an outstanding contribution to the LIS fields as well as IFLA and serving in diversified leadership roles, including elected Secretary, IFLA Information Literacy Section, Standing Committee Member of IFLA Management and Marketing Section, Information Coordinator of IFLA Asia and Oceania Section, Standing Committee member of the European Conference on Information Literacy (ECIL), General Secretary, DLNetSA, Country Coordinator of Information Literacy Consortium sponsored by UNESCO, elected Senior Vice President and Women Affairs Secretary of Library Association of Bangladesh (LAB) from 2009-2014, President (Acting) of Library Association of Bangladesh (LAB) in 2011.

Antonia Arahova elected to serve as IFLA President-elect 2021-23 and then President

Antonia Arahova, IFLA President elect- 2021-2023

Antonia Arahova has been elected to serve as IFLA President-elect 2021-2023 and as IFLA President for 2023-2025.

Antonia Arahova has demonstrated and sustained a high level of achievement and leadership in library and information services throughout her career. Antonia has been making an outstanding contribution to the objects and work of IFLA and serving in multiple leadership roles, including IFLA Governing Board Member, IFLA Chair Division IV, and Member of IFLA Financial and Professional Committee. She has been Chief Operating Officer at the National Library of Greece from June 2011 until March 2014, where she has continued to work since 1995.

Antonia holds a bachelor degree in Greek Literature from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, MRA (Master in Public Management & Public Policy) from the Department of International and European Economic Studies of Athens University of Economics and Business and Μs (Master in Communication and Mass Media in the Field of Political Communication) from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with a thesis on cultural diplomacy, social media and presidential libraries. Her PhD dissertation focuses on “Strategies for the Implementation of Electronic Services in the National Library of Greece”. She is the only person from Greece elected in March 2017 as a member of the Governing Board of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) in its 90 years of operation. She is an officer in the Management & Marketing Section and a member of the International Committee for the IFLA International Libraries Marketing Award. She is also a member of the Financial and Professional Committee of IFLA. From 2007 to 2010, she was a member of the Board of Directors of the General State Archives. From October 2017, she is responsible for the Library of the President of the Hellenic Republic. She speaks French, English and Italian and plays piano. She is the Editor of the Literary Magazine (de)kata. She has participated in many international conferences and has published articles on strategic management, marketing, cultural heritage promotion and cultural diplomacy.

Announcement of the 2021 ASIS&T SIG-III International Paper Contest

The Special Interest Group on International Information Issues (SIG-III) of the Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T), announced its 2021 winners for the International Paper Contest (IPC).

This year, the jury board received a good number of papers from Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan, and Turkey. The competition was tough as two papers qualified for third position!

Bangladesh National Archives Bill 2021: The Key Points to Know

Bangladesh National Archive Bill, 2021 was placed in the parliament on  June 06, 2021, keeping provisions that no record can be destroyed.

KM Khalid, State Minister for Cultural Affairs placed the bill and it was sent to the respective parliamentary standing committee for further examination. The committee was asked to submit its report within 30 days.

ASIS&T Announces 2021 Award Winners: Winners of Prestigious ASIS&T Awards to be Honored in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.

The Association for Information Science & Technology (ASIS&T) has announced the winners’ names of the different ASIS&T Awards for 2021.

Researchers, practitioners, and academics in the field of information science and technology eagerly await the announcement of the winners of the renowned ASIS&T awards, which are among the oldest and most prestigious honor in the still-evolving field of information science and technology. Winners are usually announced immediately before the ASIS&T Annual Meeting, after a lengthy nomination and jurying procedure. They are then formally presented at the meeting during the annual awards luncheon.

In this year the ASIS&T Annual Meeting will be held in October 29 through November 3, 2021, in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.
