Ms. Tasnim Fatema has been promoted to General Manager of Bangladesh Bank Library (BBL) from Deputy General Manager on 30 December 2019. She joined BBL in 2000 as Assistant Director.
She completed her BA (Hons.) and MA in Library and Information Science from Dhaka University.
Dr. Md. Mukhlesur Rahman has received his second PhD in Knowledge Management area from the Graduate School of Advanced Science and Technology, Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), Japan. Dr. Mukhles obtained this degree after fulfilment of a series of criteria of JAIST which includes compilation of course work, conducting a minor research project, the participation of international conferences, publishing research findings in international journals, writing up a dissertation, and defending the dissertation in several stages.

A five-day-long training program on “Library Administration and Information Management” from 22nd – 26th of December, 2019 was held at Central Public Library, Shahbag, Dhaka arranged by the Department of Public Libraries under Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

The 52nd convocation of the country’s largest education institution, Dhaka University was held on 9 December 2019. Mr. Md. Atikuzzaman was awarded a gold medal for his outstanding academic result in the department of Information Science and Library Management. The university’s Chancellor President Abdul Hamid presided over the grand event at the university’s central playground while the National Professor Anisuzzaman attended as the convocation speaker. Dhaka University conferred honorary Doctor of Laws degree to Dr Takaaki Kajita at the convocation ceremony.
Earlier Mr. Atikuzzaman was also awarded Lion Md. Jonab Ali and Farzana Jonab Gold Medal and TLT Young student award in 2019.
The British Council’s Libraries Unlimited Programme and the Department of Public Libraries have organised a workshop titled “Policy Workshop on the Formulation of a National Policy for Public Libraries” at the Westin Hotel Dhaka, recently. The objective of this day-long workshop was to review the draft policy for public libraries and collect recommendations from the stakeholders.

ULAB Vice-Chancellor, Professor H M Jahirul Haque launched a two daylong (17-18 December 2019) Book and Photo exhibition at the Lobby of University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) on 17 December 2019.

Begum Akhter Jahan-a librarian, politician, freedom fighter and a social worker received Begum Rokeya Padak 2019.
Prime Minister Sheik Hasina handed over to five people the prestigious Begum Rokeya Padak for their outstanding contributions to the empowerment of society and women. The award ceremony, marking the 139th birth and 87th death anniversary of Begum Rokeya Shakhawat Hossain.

A daylong training workshop on University Grants Commission (UGC) Digital Library (UDL) was held at UGC auditorium on 03 December 2019.
UGC Chairman Professor Dr Kazi Shahidullah was present as the chief guest while UGC Members Professor Dr Dil Afroza Begum, Professor Dr Md. Sazzad Hossain and Professor Dr Muhammed Alamgir were present as the special guests. UGC Member Professor Dr Md. Akhtar Hossain presided over the opening session.
