M. Shamsul Islam Khan (1949-2021)
In memory of M. Shamsul Islam Khan, TLT held a mourning program on Friday, 24 September 2021, at 10 AM. The program was conducted through a zoom call, and a significant number of professionals joined the mourning program along with M Shamsul Islam Khan’s Family.
Prof. SM Mannan, Department of Information Science and library management, Dhaka University, convened the program. Honourable Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Prof. Dr Md. Sharfuddin Ahmed was present as the special guest to share his memory. The library professionals from all levels, including medical libraries, academic libraries, special libraries, LIS teachers, researchers and students, attended the commemorative meeting and have shared their fond memories of M. Shamsul Islam Khan. Some of them were Dr Moniruzzaman UNIC, Prof. S.M. Zabed Ahmed, Department of Information Science and library management, Dhaka University, Prof. Nasiruddin Mitul, Dean, School of Undergraduate Studies at National University Bangladesh, M Hossam Haider Chowdhury, Librarian at Independent University, Bangladesh, Dr Azizur Rahman, Dilruba Nazim, Senior Librarian, Manarat Dhaka International School and College, Dilruba Mahabuba, S.m. Humayun Kabir, Medical Library Association of Bangladesh (MedLAB) and many others.

South Asia Chapter of ASIS&T has been awarded special funding to pursue a unique project on ‘Dealing with COVID-19 and Saving People’s Lives in South Asia (SA) Areas & Beyond – A Health Informatics Promotion Project’. This Chapter proposes to set up a YouTube channel to host multilingual videos for disseminating awareness on a variety of topics on Covid-19 in the South Asia region. This project runs in collaboration with the Asia Pacific and European Chapter to bring their experience dealing with similar viruses in the past. This Chapter expects that the content for these videos will help fight misinformation and disinformation regarding Covid-19 information by citing accurate and reliable sources of information.
