Information Literacy Session held at Southeast University Library

Southeast University (SEU) Library organized an Information Literacy session for the faculty members of the School of Business Studies (SBS) on 6 November 2018 at SEU Main Building, Banani, Dhaka. Md. Mubassir Ahsan, Assistant Librarian (Library In-Charge) conducted the session. The session was arranged and designed to enhance the faculty member’s research capacity by using e-resources as well as library resources. Twenty faculty members of SBS were present and they found the session was lively and fruitful. Dr Rezbin Nahar, Director of BBA Program attended the session among others.

PD Scheme Awards in Victoria

At the ALIA RAIS (Vic) Group’s latest event ‘Career Carpentry: How to engage with the ALIA PD Scheme‘ on 16 October; ALIA Victoria State Manager Eileen Louden presented several PD Scheme awards. Romany Manuell and Prodip Roy both received their Distinguished Certified Professional certificates and Kathleen Fitzgerald and Frank Ponte received their Certified Professional certificates.

It is with deep personal regret that Prof Mahbubur Rahman, Director General of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE), died at a Singapore hospital on Saturday, 3 November 2018. Prof Mahbubur died after a long struggle with respiratory complications. Each of us not only grieves at the passing of an incredible individual for Bangladesh’s education sector but also for the loss his family suffers. He was only 57.

Mahbubur Rahman breathed his last around 12:20 pm (Bangladesh time) while undergoing treatment at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore. The DG, who had been suffering from respiratory complications, was admitted to the hospital on September 24.

The University of Kalyani has conferred a PhD degree to Md. Moniruzzaman

Md. Moniruzzaman, National Information Officer and Head of United Nations Information Centre (Bangladesh), on 11 October 2018 was conferred with a PhD in Library and Information Science by the University of Kalyani (India) for his research on “ A critical study of information support services of UN agencies towards socio-economic development of Bangladesh.’’ Sri Sabuj Dasgupta of the Department of Library and Information Science of the University of Kalyani supervised the thesis.

East West University Library organized a seminar on “Introduction to Citation Management Software: Mendeley” on 22 October 2018 (Monday) from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in S. M. Nousher Ali Lecture Gallery (Room-126), East West University.

Mendeley is a free cross-platform reference manager, as well as a data repository, career database, and social network that supports millions of researchers across all stages of the research workflow.
